We’ve all undoubtedly heard of the fires that have been ravaging the Amazon Rainforest. Luckily, companies like Alter Eco, a sustainable chocolate company with an agroforestry program in the Amazon are taking action to combat the fires.
In order to help protect the Amazon, Alter Eco formed a coalition called Amazon Alliance of other eco-conscious brands to spread awareness of the current situation and give advice on how to reverse the effects of deforestation. Alter Eco has promised to protect one tree for every product sold in the month of September, estimating a total one million trees. The coalition is following Alter Eco’s footsteps and making additional commitments to protect another two million trees before the end of the month.
The Biocorredor Martin Sagrado project in Peru “aims to address deforestation and its resulting emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the Huayabamba river watershed, in the Department of San Martin, Peru.” Alter Eco annually contributes to this project and has selected this region as the place where the tree conservation will take place.
The best part of Amazon Alliance is that it has been set up in a way where other companies that are interested in helping out the Amazon can easily become part of the coalition. If you are interested in learning more, click here.
